MDOT Promotes Driver/Pedestrian Safety for Halloween
Officials focused on preventing impaired driving and pedestrian safety
HANOVER, MD – On Friday, October 27, 2017, the Maryland Department of Transportation will hold a press conference focused on its efforts to increase driver and pedestrian safety awareness approaching Halloween. The visibility of pedestrians who are out Trick or Treating for Halloween, along with ways to prevent impaired driving, including transit options, will be discussed.
The event also will highlight the success of Noah’s Law, which was enacted on October 1, 2016. Noah’s Law is named for Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta, who was struck and subsequently died as a result of a drunk driver in December 2015 while conducting a traffic stop with another suspected drunk driver during a holiday patrol. Noah’s father, Rich Leotta, will be one of the featured speakers.
In addition, the Maryland State Police Mobile Breath Alcohol Testing (MBAT) Truck, which is specially-designed to process impaired drivers at the scene of arrest as well as a vehicle equipped with a fully functional ignition interlock device will be available.
