Officer Noah Leotta “Act Responsibly Schorlarship” Carwash
What do you get when you combine incredible intelligence, a knack for sports, a love for volunteering, a sense of community and a desire to give back to Olney? Meet five Farquhar Middle School students who went the extra mile and proving that it is cool to be both smart and compassionate.
Tristan Furnish, Hunter Bredow, Felix Kahan, Stephen Billig and Cooper Kroll were recently invited to join the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) based on their stellar grades and active involvement in a variety of community service activites. Part of being a member of NJHS is to create a community-based project that is innovative and inspiring. These five young teenagers – football players, basketball stars and friends since childhood – knew they wanted to do something big to give back to the Onley community.
When the boys heard about the tragedy involving Olney native and Montgomery County Police Officer Noah Leotta, they knew they wanted to make a connection between honoring Officer Leotta and showing their love for Olney. The boys quickly sprang into action and started making calls and connections throughout the community to find out how they could help honor Leotta’s life and his mission to keep our community safe.
Under the guidance of Jon Hulsizer at the Olney Chamber of Commerce and Matthew Green (NJHS supervisor at Farquhar Middle School), the five students will be hosting a car wash at Sandy Spring Bank on Georgia Avenue in Olney on Saturday, April 9, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon. The team is hoping to raise a minimum of $1,000.00 toward this exceptional cause. All funds raised will be donated directly to the Police Officer Noah Leotta “Act Responsibly Scholarship”. Come out and get your car washed and help support the cause!
